A. Why did God Establish Marriage?
1. God created marriage for companionship.
And the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a companion who will help him." - Genesis 2:18
2. God created marriage as the best environment for raising children.
God blessed them and told them, "Multiply and fill the earth and subdue it. Be masters over the fish and birds and all the animals." - Genesis 1:28
Didn't The Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard yourself; remain loyal to the wife of your youth. - Malachi 2:15
3. God created marriage as a symbol of the relationship between Jesus Christ and the Church.
As the Scriptures say, "A man leave his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one." This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. - Ephesians 5:31-32
B. Is Marriage God's Will For Everyone?
1. God created marriage and called it good.
So God created people in his own image;
God patterned them after himself;
male and female he created them … Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was excellent in every way. This all happened on the sixth day. - Genesis 1:27, 31
2. Marriage is not for everyone.
Some are born as eunuchs, some have been made that way by others, and some choose not to marry for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven. Let anyone who can, accept this statement. - Matthew 19:12
I wish everyone could get along without marrying just as I do. But we are not all the same. God gives some the gift of marriage, and to others he gives the gift of singleness. Now I say to those who aren't married and to widows – it's better to stay unmarried, just as I am. But if they can't control themselves, they should go ahead and marry. It's better to marry than to burn with lust. - 1 Corinthians 7:7-9
C. If I Am Single, Am I Missing Out God's Plan For Me?
1. Not necessary.
In everything you do, I want you to be free from the concerns of his life. An unmarried man can spend his time doing The Lord's work and thinking how to please him. - 1 Corinthians 7:32
D. What If I Want To Marry? Is That Wrong?
1. Good when find the 'right' mates.
2. Don't feel pressured to marry or to remain single.
And the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a companion who will help him." - Genesis 2:18
So the person who marries does well, and the person who doesn't marry does even better. - 1 Corinthians 7:3
E. How Can God Help Me In My Singleness?
1. Step back.
2. Look for how God might want to use your singleness in a way that He could not if you were married.
I wish everyone could get along without marrying just as I do. But we are not all the same. God gives some the gift of marriage, and to others he gives the gift of singleness. Now I say to those who aren't married and to widows – it's better to stay unmarried, just as I am. - 1 Corinthians 7:7-8
But if she does leave him, let her remain single or else go back to him. And the husband must not leave his wife. - 1 Corinthians 7:11
F. How Can I Deal With The Loneliness Of Being Single?
1. Get together with other believers.
2. Get involved in local church.
3. Get busy with God's people doing God's work.
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that they day of his coming back again is drawing near. - Hebrews 10:25
4. You are never alone.
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of age. - Matthew 28:20
