Management Series: Worry by Dexter Ng

1.What is the first thing you think of when you hear the word “worry”?

2.What would you say to a friend who was worried about :

§Getting caught cheating on a test
§A bad haircut/hairdo
§Failed SPM
§Their parents getting a divorce

3.What Jesus Said About Worry

25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Matthew 6:25-34 (NIV)

a)Worry is illogical

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?

vs. 25 (NIV)

b) Worry is unnatural

26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? …28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

vs. 26, 28, 29 (NIV)

c) Worry is unhelpful

Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

vs. 32 (NIV)

d) Worry is unnecessary

If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

vs. 30 (NIV)

e) Worry is unChristian

31 Don't worry and say, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear?'32 The people who don't know God keep trying to get these things, and your Father in heaven knows you need them.

vs. 31, 32 (NCV)

4.The Cure for Worry

a)Put God first in every area of my life

32 The people who don't know God keep trying to get these things, and your Father in heaven knows you need them. 33 Seek first God's kingdom and what God wants. Then all your other needs will be met as well.

vs. 32, 33 (NCV)

b) Live just one day at a time

So don't worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will have its own worries. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

vs. 34 (NCV)

Give us today our daily bread.

Matthew 6:11 (NIV)

c) Trust God to take care of things beyond my control

6 Do not worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks.7 And God's peace, which is so great we cannot understand it, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NCV)

Friends

And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say 'never'
Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long
To live as friends

Gossip by Isaac Chee

What is gossip?
“to sip”
a person who habitually reveals personal or sensational facts about others
rumour or report of an intimate nature
a report (often malicious) about the behaviour of other people

Why do you gossip?
you are ‘concerned
‘sharing is caring
you privately enjoy hearing about other people’s life
it helps you to be more popular
you just have nothing better to do in life

What is wrong with gossip?
it may be true at first, but…eventually
it betrays confidence
someone will get hurt
a person who gossips to you, will gossip about you
words are hard(if not impossible) to be reversed

Additional verses

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

Matthew 12:36

Telling lies about other is as harmful as hitting them with an axe,

wounding them with a sword, or shooting them with a sharp arrow.

Proverbs 25:18

A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret.

  Proverbs 11:13

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Ephesians 4:29

Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down.

Proverbs 26:20

So, what do I do about gossip?
walk away
think of the consequences
scold the fella spreading it!
ask you mommy and daddy if you should do it

do not gossip

it is as plain as that.
